Overview
Skymark Airlines is a Japanese low-cost carrier and the third-largest airline in Japan by passenger numbers, operating scheduled domestic services and a limited number of international routes.
Founded in 1996 and commencing operations in 1998, Skymark was established to introduce competition and lower fares to Japan's domestic aviation market, which had been dominated by ANA and JAL.
The airline filed for bankruptcy protection in 2015 following a failed attempt to introduce Airbus A380 services, subsequently restructuring with investment from Integral Corporation and ANA Holdings.
Skymark operates a single-type Boeing 737 fleet concentrated on high-density domestic trunk routes between Tokyo Haneda and major Japanese cities.
