Shanghai Airlines is a Chinese carrier headquartered in Shanghai and a subsidiary of Air China, which acquired a controlling stake in 2010. The airline operates domestic routes across mainland China and a selection of international services across Asia.
Founded in 1985 as one of China's early non-state-owned airlines, Shanghai Airlines grew steadily throughout the reform era before being absorbed into the Air China group. It continues to operate under its own brand and IATA designator.
As a SkyTeam member through its affiliation with Air China and China Eastern, passengers can earn and redeem miles across the alliance network. The airline serves primarily leisure and business travellers on busy trunk routes within China.
