Hawaiian Airlines
Overview
Hawaiian Airlines is the flag carrier of Hawaii and the largest airline headquartered in the state, operating inter-island services across the Hawaiian archipelago as well as long-haul routes to the US mainland, Japan, South Korea, Australia, New Zealand, and other Asia-Pacific destinations.
Founded in 1929 as Inter-Island Airways, it is one of the oldest US carriers still in operation, and has historically enjoyed a strong safety record with no fatal passenger accidents in its jet era.
The airline operates widebody Airbus A330s and Boeing 787-9s on transoceanic routes, offering a three-cabin product on longer services, while Airbus A321neos serve transcontinental US mainland routes.
In 2023, Alaska Air Group announced an agreement to acquire Hawaiian Holdings, the parent company of Hawaiian Airlines, a deal that completed in late 2024, positioning the combined entity as a major competitor on West Coast and transpacific markets.
