Overview
Porter Airlines is a Canadian regional airline headquartered in Toronto, Ontario, best known for operating out of the convenient Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport on the Toronto Islands, close to the downtown core.
Founded in 2006 and launched commercially in 2006 (incorporated 1997), Porter built a premium positioning within the regional market, offering complimentary snacks, beer, wine, and a lounge experience reminiscent of a higher service tier at competitive fares.
The airline historically operated an all-Dash 8 Q400 turboprop fleet, but in a significant strategic shift announced around 2021–2022, Porter ordered Embraer E195-E2 jets to enable transcontinental expansion across Canada and into the United States and select international leisure markets.
The E195-E2 expansion, which began in 2023, has transformed Porter from a purely regional operator into a growing national low-cost carrier while retaining its reputation for quality service and customer experience.
