Pakistan International Airlines

Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) is the flag carrier of Pakistan, founded in 1955 and majority owned by the Pakistani government. It operates one of the largest route networks among South Asian carriers, connecting Pakistan to destinations across Europe, the Middle East, Asia, and North America.

PIA was once regarded as one of Asia's leading airlines, having pioneered routes and trained aviation professionals from several countries in its early decades. However, the airline has faced sustained financial difficulties, operational challenges, and reputational issues in more recent years.

The airline's operations in Europe were significantly impacted when the European Union Air Safety Agency (EASA) suspended PIA's authorisation to operate in EU member states in 2020, following concerns raised by Pakistani aviation authorities. This ban remained a major constraint on the airline's international network.

PIA serves a critical role in domestic connectivity within Pakistan and maintains important links for the large Pakistani diaspora communities in the United Kingdom, Middle East, and other regions.
