Ukraine International Airlines
Overview
Ukraine International Airlines (UIA) is the flag carrier and largest airline of Ukraine, headquartered in Kyiv and operating primarily from Boryspil International Airport. Founded in 1992 following Ukrainian independence, UIA grew to become the dominant Ukrainian carrier serving Europe, the Middle East, Asia, and North America.
The airline's operations were severely disrupted following the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, which led to the closure of Ukrainian airspace. UIA was unable to operate domestic or internationally from Ukrainian airports, dramatically reducing its operations.
Prior to the conflict, UIA maintained an extensive network connecting Kyiv with dozens of destinations across Europe and beyond, and was notable for being one of the few carriers to operate the Boeing 737 MAX in the Eastern European market.
