Bamboo Airways

Bamboo Airways, established in 2017 by Vietnamese real-estate conglomerate FLC Group, received its operating licence in late 2018 and rapidly expanded to become Vietnam's third-largest carrier, differentiating itself from low-cost rivals by offering a hybrid full-service positioning at competitive fares.

The airline operates domestic routes across Vietnam's growing network of airports and has pursued international expansion, including long-haul services to the United Kingdom and Australia using Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners, making it one of the few Vietnamese carriers to operate widebody aircraft on intercontinental routes.

Bamboo Airways experienced significant corporate turbulence following the arrest of FLC Group's chairman in 2022 on market-manipulation charges, leading to ownership restructuring and a period of financial difficulty that forced it to scale back its international ambitions and reduce fleet size.

Despite these challenges, the airline retains a domestic presence and has sought new strategic investors to stabilise its finances and resume a measured expansion of its regional and international network within Southeast Asia.
