Overview
Akasa Air is an Indian ultra-low-cost carrier founded in 2021 and launched commercially in August 2022, making it one of India's newest commercial airlines.
The airline was co-founded by the late Rakesh Jhunjhunwala, a prominent Indian investor, alongside aviation veterans Vinay Dube (CEO) and Aditya Ghosh, with a mission to provide affordable air travel across India's rapidly growing domestic market.
Akasa operates an all-Boeing 737 MAX 8 fleet, chosen for its fuel efficiency and lower operating costs, and has pursued an ambitious fleet and network expansion since inception, adding routes to tier-2 and tier-3 Indian cities.
The carrier began international operations in late 2024, launching services to destinations in the Middle East and Southeast Asia, positioning itself for growth beyond the domestic market.
