Brussels Airlines
Overview
Brussels Airlines is the flag carrier of Belgium, headquartered at Brussels Airport in Zaventem. The airline is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Lufthansa Group and serves as the primary hub carrier connecting Belgium to destinations across Europe, Africa, and beyond.
The airline was founded in 2006 from the merger of SN Brussels Airlines (itself successor to the bankrupt Sabena) and Virgin Express. It has since built a particularly strong network of African routes, reflecting Belgium's historical ties to the continent.
Brussels Airlines is a full member of Star Alliance, giving passengers access to the world's largest airline network. It operates frequent intercontinental services to North America and maintains an extensive European short-haul network from its Brussels hub.
The airline is well known for its passion for Belgian culture, often featuring Belgian comic strip heroes and national icons in its livery and on-board branding. Its affiliation with Lufthansa Group ensures high operational standards and coordinated connectivity through other group hubs.
