Overview
United Airlines is one of the "Big Three" US legacy carriers, headquartered in Chicago, Illinois. Founded in 1926 as part of the early US airmail system, today United operates one of the most extensive global route networks of any airline, with hubs at Chicago O'Hare, Newark, San Francisco, Houston, Denver, Washington Dulles and Los Angeles.
The fleet ranges from Airbus A319 / A320 narrow-bodies and Boeing 737 MAX on domestic and short-haul, through Boeing 757 and 767 on transatlantic, to Boeing 777-300ER and 787-9/-10 Dreamliners on long-haul. Polaris business class is United's flagship long-haul product.
United is a founding member of the Star Alliance (1997) and operates joint ventures with Lufthansa, Air Canada, ANA and Singapore Airlines to extend reach across Europe, Asia, and the Pacific. The carrier serves more international destinations from US gateways than any other US airline.
MileagePlus is United's loyalty programme — points earn on revenue (not miles flown), with status tiers from Premier Silver through Premier 1K and Global Services. The programme is one of the most-redeemed in the world thanks to deep Star Alliance partner availability.
