Avianca, founded in 1919, is one of the oldest airlines in the world and the flag carrier of Colombia. After a period of bankruptcy proceedings completed in 2021, the airline emerged as a restructured entity focused on profitable Latin American and transatlantic routes.
The carrier is a full member of Star Alliance and operates an extensive network spanning North America, South America, Europe, and the Caribbean, with its primary hub at Bogotá's El Dorado International Airport.
Avianca's business class product on long-haul routes features lie-flat seats, while its short- and medium-haul network is predominantly operated with Airbus A320-family narrowbodies. The LifeMiles loyalty programme is widely regarded as one of Latin America's most versatile, with broad redemption partners.
The airline has pursued regional integration through common branding for several Central and South American subsidiaries and has historically been central to the Synergy Group's multi-carrier Latin American strategy.
