Air Astana, established in 2001 as a joint venture between Kazakhstan's sovereign wealth fund Samruk-Kazyna and BAE Systems, is the flag carrier of Kazakhstan and the leading airline of Central Asia.
Operating from dual hubs in Almaty and the capital Astana, the airline connects Kazakhstan with destinations across Europe, Asia, the Middle East, and the CIS, serving as the primary gateway for international travel to and from Central Asia.
Air Astana has consistently attracted international recognition for its service quality and safety standards, making it one of the highest-rated carriers in the CIS region. The airline completed a partial IPO on the Astana International Exchange and the London Stock Exchange in 2023, increasing public ownership.
The group launched low-cost subsidiary FlyArystan in 2019 to capture price-sensitive domestic and regional demand, and has transitioned its fleet toward modern Airbus A320neo-family and Embraer E2 types to improve fuel efficiency across its network.
