Overview
KLM Royal Dutch Airlines is the oldest operating airline in the world under its original name, founded in 1919. The flag carrier of the Netherlands operates from a single mega-hub at Amsterdam Schiphol, one of Europe's busiest connecting airports.
KLM's long-haul fleet is centred on the Boeing 787-9 / 787-10 Dreamliners and Boeing 777-200ER / 300ER. Short-haul European routes are flown by Boeing 737s and Embraer 175 / 190 jets operated by subsidiary KLM Cityhopper. The retired Boeing 747 "Queen of the Skies" had been a KLM signature aircraft for over 50 years.
KLM merged with Air France in 2004 to form the Air France-KLM Group, while preserving its independent brand and Amsterdam base. The group is a founding member of SkyTeam and forms the world's largest transatlantic joint venture alongside Delta and Virgin Atlantic.
Flying Blue is the joint Air France-KLM frequent-flyer programme. KLM's World Business Class is the long-haul Business cabin product. The airline is recognised for sustainability initiatives including SAF (sustainable aviation fuel) blending and the Fly Responsibly programme.
